Dr. Ivan Petar Marchi, a renowned writer, translator, and diplomat, began constructing the Martinis-Marchi castle with his brothers in 1706. The castle passed through heirs to Count Petar degli Alberti, who sold it in the late 19th century due to debts. After decades of neglect and a failed mid-20th-century hotel conversion, the castle was saved from ruin by Hartmut Lademacher. Today, Martinis-Marchi, located on the Maslinica waterfront, stands beautifully restored.
